🗂️ Part 2 – Cue Card
Describe an important piece of equipment in your home.
You should say:
- What it is
- How long you have had it
- What you use it for
And explain why it is important to you.
🗣️ Sample Answer
One of the most important pieces of equipment in my home is our washing machine. We’ve had it for about five years, and it has become an essential part of our daily routine. Before we had it, washing clothes by hand was a tiring and time-consuming task.
We use the machine at least three times a week to wash our clothes, bed sheets, and towels. It features different modes for various fabrics and conserves both water and energy. The spin dryer function also helps clothes dry much faster, which is very convenient, especially during the rainy season.
This equipment is important because it saves time and effort for my entire family. It allows us to focus on work and studies while our laundry is taken care of in the background. It’s something we now can’t imagine living without.
🔁 Part 3: Follow-Up Questions
1. What are some other essential household appliances?
Other essential items include refrigerators, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, and water heaters. These make daily chores easier and more efficient. Most homes rely on these appliances for comfort and convenience.
2. How has technology changed home appliances over time?
Modern appliances are now more energy-efficient, compact, and smarter. Many have digital displays, touch controls, and even app connectivity. These advancements save time and allow remote control.
3. Do people in your country prefer manual tasks or using machines?
Most people now prefer using machines because they are faster and easier. However, in rural areas, manual work is still common due to limited access to appliances. Urban households are highly dependent on equipment.
4. Are expensive appliances always better than cheap ones?
Not always. Expensive models may have more features or better build quality, but budget options can still be reliable. The key is to choose based on needs, durability, and energy usage.
5. Should children be taught how to use household equipment?
Yes, it helps them become more independent and responsible. Teaching safety and proper handling is important. Simple tasks, such as loading a washing machine or using a microwave, are essential life skills.
6. What should people consider before buying a home appliance?
They should consider energy efficiency, brand reputation, features, size, and price. Warranty and after-sales service are also important. Buying something that fits the family’s actual needs prevents waste.
7. What role do household appliances play in modern life?
They make life more efficient and comfortable. Tasks that once took hours can now be completed in minutes. Appliances give people more time for work, hobbies, and rest.
8. Can over-dependence on appliances be a problem?
Yes, it can lead to reduced physical activity and problem-solving skills. If machines fail, some people may feel helpless. Balance is important—technology should support life, not control it.
9. How can we reduce energy consumption from appliances?
Using energy-efficient models, turning off devices when not in use, and limiting usage time helps. Regular maintenance also improves performance. Small habits make a big difference in reducing electricity bills.
10. Do you think smart home technology is the future?
Yes, smart devices offer convenience, remote access, and better control. Voice-activated appliances and automation are becoming more common. As prices drop, more homes will adopt this technology.
