IELTS READING
What is IELTS Academic and General Reading?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized test used to measure the language proficiency of non-native English speakers. There are two main types of IELTS tests: the Academic IELTS and the General Training IELTS.
The IELTS Academic Reading test is designed for those who want to study at a university or college where English is the primary language of instruction. This test measures a candidate’s ability to understand and analyze complex academic texts. The reading passages are taken from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers, and cover a range of topics in fields such as science, social sciences, and the arts.
The IELTS General Training Reading test, on the other hand, is designed for those who want to migrate to an English-speaking country for work or other purposes. This test measures a candidate’s ability to understand everyday English language texts, such as advertisements, newspapers, and instruction manuals. The reading passages are shorter and simpler than those in the Academic IELTS test, but they cover a range of topics relevant to daily life.
Both tests consist of three reading passages, each followed by a series of questions that test a candidate’s comprehension, vocabulary, and reasoning skills. The test is scored on a scale of 0 to 9, with 9 being the highest score.
