I enjoy reading philosophical and spiritual books because they help me understand deeper aspects of life. One of my all-time favourite books is The Bhagavad Gita. It’s a sacred Hindu scripture that offers profound guidance on morality, duty, and the purpose of life.

The Gita is part of the epic Mahabharata, presenting a conversation between Prince Arjuna and Lord Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Arjuna is confused about whether to fight in a war against his own relatives. Krishna, serving as his charioteer, explains the nature of the soul, karma, detachment, and selfless action.

I received this book from my grandfather when I was in high school. At that time, I was going through a lot of confusion about my future and values, and reading the Gita gave me clarity. It became more than just a book—it became a life guide for me.

What I love about it is its timeless wisdom. Although it was written thousands of years ago, its teachings remain relevant today. Whenever I feel uncertain or stressed, I return to its verses, and they always give me peace and direction.

Indian children love books with fantasy, adventure, and humour. Mythological tales featuring gods and heroes are quite popular, as are global series such as Harry Potter and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Colourful picture books and comics also attract younger readers.

5. What types of books do you usually recommend to others?
I often recommend books that have had a personal impact on me. For example, The Bhagavad Gita for spiritual growth, Atomic Habits for self-discipline, and To Kill a Mockingbird for moral values. I believe books that combine entertainment with life lessons are most valuable.

6. Do you think digital media will completely replace books?
Not completely. While e-books and audiobooks are convenient, many people still prefer physical books for the reading experience. The feel of turning pages and the lack of screen fatigue make traditional books special and irreplaceable for many readers.

7. Are libraries still important in modern society?
Yes, libraries are still very important, especially in educational settings. They provide free access to knowledge and a quiet space for focused reading or studying. Libraries also promote reading habits in young people and support lifelong learning.

8. Do people in your country read less nowadays?
Unfortunately, yes. Due to smartphones and social media, attention spans have decreased, and fewer people read books regularly. However, reading apps and book clubs are helping to revive interest in reading among young people.

9. How can schools encourage students to read more?
Schools can foster a strong reading culture by allocating dedicated library periods, hosting book fairs, and promoting book reviews or reading competitions. When students are given the freedom to choose what they want to read, they’re more likely to enjoy it.

10. Do books play a role in shaping a person’s character?
Absolutely. Books influence how we think, feel, and respond to the world. They expose us to different perspectives and help build empathy, discipline, and moral reasoning. Many successful individuals credit books as a major influence in their lives.
