IEL TS Writing Scores

IELTS Writing scores range from 0 to 9, with 0.5 band increments. The score you receive for the Writing section is based on the following criteria:

  1. Task Achievement (Task Response): This measures how well you address the task, and if you have fully answered the question asked.
  2. Coherence and Cohesion: This measures how well you organize and connect your ideas, and if your writing is easy to follow.
  3. Lexical Resource: This measures your vocabulary and how well you use it.
  4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy: This measures your ability to use a range of grammatical structures correctly.

The scores for each criterion are then averaged to give you an overall Writing score. For example, if your scores for the four criteria are 7, 8, 6, and 7, your overall Writing score will be 7.

It’s important to note that a minimum score of 6.5 is usually required for admission to universities in English-speaking countries, but this varies depending on the institution and the course.
