IELTS Academic Writing task 1

Understand why we do not write a conclusion for Academic Writing Task 1

In IELTS Academic Writing Task 1, the candidate is required to write a report based on the data presented in a graph, table, chart, or diagram. The purpose of the task is to demonstrate the candidate’s ability to describe and compare information accurately and coherently.

Unlike IELTS Academic Writing Task 2, where the candidate is required to write an essay with a conclusion, IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 does not require a conclusion. This is because the task is essentially a factual report rather than an argumentative essay. The focus is on accurately presenting and analyzing data, rather than on providing an opinion or making recommendations.

It is important to note that while a conclusion is not required for IELTS Academic Writing Task 1, the candidate should still provide an overview that summarizes the main trends or patterns presented in the data. The overview should be concise and provide the reader with a clear understanding of the main points of the report.
